24 hours of Schiedam
June 3rd and 4th, 2000
This year it was up to the R.W.V. to host the Dutch Walkingweekend. There were several distances (for a full overview visit the R.W.V.-website via the links) such as a 50 km, a 50 miles (80 km), a 100 km and a 24 hours/100 miles. Just like two years ago the wheather was terrible. The races started with high temperatures (25 degrees C) and a very high humidity (appr. 100%). Later on rain would fall, adding to the humidity.
The race started on Saturday at 12.00 o'clock on a dog-leg (up and down a road twice), followed by laps of 3.887 km. At approximately 10.30 on Sunday the remaining walkers switched to laps of 0.988 km. The laps took the walkers through the Beatrixpark (named after the Dutch Queen) on the north side of Schiedam (which is north of Rotterdam).
The 100 miles saw only 28 participants, clearly a result of the large number of new Continental Centurions the year before in Weert. Luckily the shorter distances attracted somewhat more people than normal. These are the results (also listed are the people who stopped, because otherwise there would hardly be anything to report):

There are 'only' 4 new Continental Centurions this year, whos numbers are:
Dirk Nicque |
297 |
Frans Devoght |
298 |
Robert de Wolf |
299 |
Joop Flipse |
300 |
Next year, the O.L.A.T. will host the event again, probably in Weert. We look forward to better wheather and of course a lot more participants.
